Leveraging our advanced analytics expertise, ASR demonstrated a student enrollment-forecasting model at the NERDUG 2014 conference in conjunction with client Howard Community College (HCC). The model incorporates years of detailed historical enrollment data from HCC's Ellucian Colleague student information system, Bureau of Labor Statistics unemployment data, and State of Maryland projected high school graduates data to forecast future enrollments over the coming seven years. The forecast results are integrated into HCC's SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence (BI) platform. HCC uses this BI system campus-wide to support operational and strategic reporting needs.
"With continuing pressure on enrollments due to changing demographics and market conditions, being able to better understand the range of likely outcomes for a variety of subgroups and associated characteristics is critical to the leadership of the college. This tool helps Howard proactively analyze data and better plan to make intelligent decisions to "move the needle" in the desired direction," said Zoe Irvin, Executive Director Planning, Research and Organizational Development. ASR will be working with the college to better understand the results, delve further in the data, and analyze additional variables of interest.
ASR has developed other predictive analytics applications for clients, including a student engagement model. The model measures the likelihood that students will stay enrolled and provides a tool for stakeholders to improve retention and completion.
