Team ASR storms the Reston Century
Aug 25, 2009
With more than a few avid and up-and-coming cyclists on staff, the team decided it was time to match rhetoric with action and step up to the challenge of the annual Reston Century Bike Ride. This past Sunday, Team ASR stormed the hills of Loudon County, Virginia over two different course options; a 62.4 mile metric century and the 31 mile half metric. Friends and significant others joined in on the fun.
Those of us that rode the metric route formed a peloton straight out of the gate and began the course at a somewhat blistering pace. The team split up a bit over the hilly portion of the route, but regrouped again through the towns of Hamilton and Purcellville. Over the last third of the course there was no stopping the "big red train" as we finished the 60+ mile ride in about 3 hours and 40 minutes with an average speed of 16 mph.
Proudly proclaiming the ride a success, the team gathered together for a festive post-ride barbecue to celebrate the achievement. I think it is safe to say that we"ll be back next year and maybe even attack the full 100 mile route.
